The ecological stress on the land is too great, and areas that once yielded agricultural produce are being transformed into desert. The land has been over tilled and over grazed, in combination with widespread deforestation for fuel and construction materials. Vegetation, wildlife and bodies of water are being lost at an alarming rate.
